(Practical 32 hrs., Theory 8 hrs.) (More details about Gay Lee Gulbrandson, CLT-LANA,) Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle, non-invasive manual technique that has a powerful effect on the body. Research in Australia, Europe and North America has proven its efficacy as a stand-alone treatment and in combination with other therapies. This technique was developed in France in 1932 by Emil and Estrid Vodder. MLD has grown to be the most effective manual technique to assist lymph flow and aid in drainage of the tissues, rejuvenate the dermis, and relieve stress and tension. In Europe, MLD is a procedure recognized by national health insurance plans. In Germany, it is now the 3rd most prescribed physical therapy technique. MLD is a systematic series of precise movements that stimulates an increase in the normal functioning of the Lymphatic System. This promotes healthy connective tissue, enhances the body's immune response, relieves pain, and sedates the sympathetic nervous system. Thus it promotes the body’s healing ability in many diverse applications, for example: sports injuries, scar tissue, pre and post operative care, as well as chronic inflammatory conditions, such as acne and rosacea.
